Joyce Kalliokoski Sherve

 

Joyce Sherve, age 87, resident of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Lakota, ND, died Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks, after a courageous battle with cancer.

 

Inez Anita Joyce Hietala was born January 13, 1930, the daughter of Alfred and Mabel (Hanson) Hietala, at the family home near Brocket, ND.  Joyce married Robert Kalliokoski on November 25, 1948 in Brocket.  They lived at a nearby farm where they raised 5 boys.  In 1974 she graduated from Lake Region College with an LPN Nursing Degree.  She spent many years working and caring for others.  Robert died July 8, 1990.  Joyce married Kermit Sherve on April 25, 1998 in Brocket.  They enjoyed their years living in Lakota, ND, until his death on April 8, 2012.

 

Joyce will be deeply missed by her 4 sons, Ronald (Marsha) Kalliokoski of Gardena, ND, Steven (Sylvia) Kalliokoski of Dickinson, ND, Larry (Eve) Kalliokoski of Flagstaff, AZ, and Bruce (Patti) Kalliokoski of Thompson, ND; a sister, Mavis (Lewis) Hursman of Osnabrock, ND; 2 brothers, Howard (Jo) Hietala of Redlands, CA and Morris (Marion) Hietala of Devils Lake, ND; along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

She was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, Robert Kalliokoski and Kermit Sherve; a brother, Rodney; and a son, Michael.

 

The Funeral Service for Joyce will be held at the Lakota Lutheran Church, Lakota, ND, on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.  Officiating will be the Reverend Tedd Rieke.  The organist will be Karen Fowler, with a special selection by Sylvia Kalliokoski.  Burial will follow at the Lakota Cemetery.  The Casketbearers will be Alex Kalliokoski, Jason Kalliokoski, Phillip Kalliokoski, Jared Steinberger, Devin Hursman, and Kyle Faught.  Visitation will be held at the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota on Friday, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and will continue at the church on Saturday, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
