Rudolph Orris Hovde was born August 17, 1930, the 4th of 11 children, the son of Oscar and Ragna (Fjeld) Hovde, in Melvin Township in Nelson County.  He grew up on the family farm and attended school at Melrose #3.  He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.  Rudy served in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany.  After serving in the Army, he settled in Chicago and worked there for about 10 years.  His mother asked him to come home and help with the farm when his younger brother was drafted.  Rudy continued living on the home place while farming until he retired.  In 2010 he moved to Aneta full-time.  After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his sisters.  They took a trip to Germany and went to many places in the U.S.  He liked going to Branson, Badlands, and Medora.  Anyone who knew Rudy knew his love for tractors.  Rudy spent many hours restoring tractors over the years with the Stump Lake Tractor Club and Pioneer Village.
